Although the Berlin Wall is now long gone, visitors to
Berlin can learn about Europe's divided history at one of several museums
and memorials in the city.
The Checkpoint Charlie Museum, for example, focuses on the
many ingenious escape attempts that were undertaken to cross the wall.
The Stasi Museum examines the tools and methods used to control the
population by the East German Secret Police during the DDR era. There is
also a DDR museum, that examines everyday life in the DDR.
